We completely overhauled this 1980’s era landscape complete with tree removal, BBQ demolition and patio removal. In their place we installed a variety of fruit trees, created a new pergola and pathways, installed a cedar soaking tub and designed a rain water harvesting system.

Our client recently purchased this home in the Clairemont Mesa area of San Diego and hired us for a complete landscape design and install overhaul. Featuring a pergola, decomposed granite (DG) pathways, a cedar soaking tub, rainwater harvesting (tanks and dry creek bed) and raised vegetable beds.

Design Concepts
After our initial landscape design consultation, our team sketched concept variations that addressed the client’s goals and vision. Through multiple visits and revisions, we settled on a concept that fit within their budget.
Capturing and Soaking the Rain
Our eco-friendly client appreciated all the design touches we provided like this dry creek bed. When the rainwater tanks overflow with storm water, the excess flows underground to this basin that slows, spreads and sinks the water into the soil to extend the rainy season and improve disease resistance for plants that are nearby.
Resource Conservation
Over 20,000 gallons fall onto this rooftop in an average rainfall year (~11 inches). We now capture almost all of that water and direct it towards the soil or rain tanks for storage and later use. This keeps the soil we longer and irrigates the surrounding landscaping as well as reduces storm drain run off and pollution.
